Overview

The VIAVI SmartClass Fiber OLTS-85P is a handheld optical loss test set (OLTS) for Tier 1 certification of installed fiber optic links. It combines fiber end-face inspection with loss, length and polarity testing in a single instrument, and is available in dedicated multimode, single-mode and quad versions.

An optical loss test set measures the length and optical loss of a fiber link or channel and checks its polarity. These measurements are required by installation standards such as TIA 568.3, ISO 11801 and ISO/IEC 14763-3 and are referred to as basic or Tier 1 fiber certification. The OLTS-85/85P applies pass/fail limits from these standards and tests two fibers at two wavelengths in one run, with results from both the local and remote unit saved on the local device.

Inspection and reporting

The instrument supports end-face inspection with automated pass/fail analysis on both the local and remote device, and the light sources are encircled-flux compliant. Results are shown on a 3.5-inch color touch screen; fiber certification reports are generated through the FiberChekPRO reporting software, and the SmartClass Fiber, J-Reporter and ReportPRO software packages are available for download. The unit starts instantly from sleep mode and the Li-ion battery pack is rated for a full working day.
