Overview

The VIAVI FiberChek Probe is a handheld fiber inspection microscope that performs inspection without connecting to another device. Image viewing, auto-focus, pass/fail analysis and result storage and recall are built into the probe, so the complete inspection workflow runs on the instrument itself.

An integrated touch-screen display shows live images and analysis results. The probe locates the fiber, focuses the image, analyzes the end face and records the result. Technicians can select acceptance criteria, including IEC 61300-3-35 profiles or customer-specific requirements, and store, name and recall test results on the instrument.

Inspection tips and access

The FiberChek Probe accepts existing FBPT inspection tips, including standard, long reach, ribbon and 60-degree angled tips. This supports inspection of patch cords and bulkhead connectors on towers and poles, in overhead raceways, high-density patch panels and tray systems, multi-fiber ribbon connectors, and connectors on cards and circuit boards.

Connectivity

The probe connects over WiFi and USB to other VIAVI instruments, including the SmartClass Fiber family, T-BERD/MTS family, OneExpert family, CellAdvisor, Certifier40G and the MP-60 optical power meter. Connected to an OTDR, the probe can inspect the next port while an OTDR test is running. Connected to an MP-60, it records inspection results and optical power readings in one integrated report.

The FiberChek Probe also works with FiberChekMOBILE for Android and iOS and with FiberChekPRO for Windows tablets, PCs and laptops. From these devices users can view live images, operate the probe, manage stored results, generate certification reports, share results by e-mail or cloud storage, and GPS-tag test locations.
