Overview

The VIAVI T-BERD/MTS-4000 V2 is a compact handheld test platform for every phase of the fiber network lifecycle, from installation and turn-up to maintenance. It is used on Metro, Core, Access, FTTH, FTTx, HFC, wireless, 5G, enterprise and data center networks by engineers, technicians, installers and contractors.

The platform has two slots for field-replaceable modules and a 9-inch color multi-touch screen with permanent function keys. It supports the VIAVI range of fiber analysis tools, including OTDR, OSA, TrueBIDIR instant bidirectional OTDR event loss analysis, bidirectional insertion loss/ORL, light source, power meter and connector inspection. Two modules can be combined in one unit, for example an OTDR with an MPO-based switch for MPO fiber qualification, CWDM/DWDM OTDRs with an OSA for WDM deployment, or two CWDM OTDR modules covering all 18 CWDM wavelengths.

Built-in options

The mainframe can be fitted with a broadband power meter, a visual fault locator, an optical talkset, built-in WiFi/Bluetooth and 32 GB of extended memory. Modules are also compatible with the T-BERD/MTS-2000 and -5800 platforms.

Connectivity and workflow

The unit connects over USB, Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth. SmartAccess Anywhere (SAA) allows remote control from a PC browser or a smartphone/tablet app, so tests can be started remotely and field technicians can be supported on site. VIAVI StrataSync and Test Process Automation (TPA) provide cloud-based asset, configuration, test data and workflow management. Reports can be generated on the instrument, on a PC with the FiberCable software suite, or through StrataSync.
