Overview

The VIAVI FFL-105 is the ruggedized, high-power (5 mW) member of the FFL Series Visual Fault Locators. It emits visible red light at 650 nm into an optical fiber so that light escaping at sharp bends, breaks and other damage can be seen from a distance. This lets technicians pinpoint the location of fiber damage during installation or troubleshooting.

Besides locating damage, the VFL is used for end-to-end continuity tests and for fiber tracing and identification on single-mode and multimode fibers. A Continuous/Flash control button lets the operator choose between continuous and flashing illumination.

The FFL-105 has a universal 2.5 mm fixed interface compatible with connectors such as SC, ST and FC. An included universal 1.25 mm adapter allows connection to LC and MU connectors.

The ruggedized form factor has shock-absorbing construction, runs on two AA batteries for longer battery life, and comes with a lanyard/neck strap and a magnet for quick attachment to a rack or panel. A soft-sided carrying case with belt loop is included.
