Overview

The VIAVI FFL-050 is the pocket-sized, standard-power (1 mW) model of the FFL Series Visual Fault Locators. A visual fault locator (VFL) is used to find problem areas in fiber cables during installation and troubleshooting. It also supports end-to-end continuity tests and fiber identification.

The FFL-050 emits visible red light at 650 nm. Where a fiber has a sharp bend, break or other damage, light escapes at that point and can be seen from a distance, so technicians can find the fault and repair it. A Continuous/Flash control button switches between continuous and flashing illumination.

The unit has a universal 2.5 mm connector interface that is compatible with connectors such as SC, ST and FC. The included universal 1.25 mm adapter allows connection to LC and MU connectors. The FFL-050 works with both single-mode and multimode fiber.

The pocket-sized form factor is built for portability. The unit runs on two AAA batteries, which are included, and ships in a soft-sided carrying case with a belt loop. The 5 mW FFL-055 is the high-power version of the same pocket-sized design.
