Overview
The PLC-006 is the miniature version of the PolaRITE drop-in (in-line) manual polarization controller in the Luna PLC series. Like the other PLC models, it changes the polarization of the output light by applying pressure to a single-mode fiber, which changes the fiber's birefringence.
The user sets the amount of pressure with a thumb screw and the pressure axis by rotating the center section of the controller. As a drop-in device, the PLC-006 controls polarization in fiber already installed in a system: a length of fiber is placed into the slot on top of the device, so no part of the system has to be disconnected.
The miniature size means it fits in tighter spaces inside a fiber optic module. The fiber is held by a clamp, which is ordered with either screws or magnets. The larger lab version of the same drop-in design is the PLC-003.
