Overview
The PLC-002 is the regular-size pigtailed version of the PolaRITE manual polarization controller in the Luna PLC series (formerly General Photonics). It is supplied pigtailed with or without connectors and can be spliced to other components with minimal loss, making it suitable for controlling the polarization state of light in single-mode fiber optic systems.
The controller is based on fiber squeezing. Pressure is applied to a single-mode fiber to change its birefringence and therefore the polarization of the output light. The user sets the amount of pressure with a thumb screw and the pressure axis by rotating the center section of the controller.
The PLC-002 is the regular-size configuration. A miniature version, the PLC-M02, is also available. Connector options include FC/PC, FC/APC, SC/PC and SC/APC, or no connectors. Typical uses include fiber laser and OCT system integration as well as general laboratory work.
