Overview

The VIAVI multi-fiber MPO based optical switches are used together with an OTDR 4100 series module or a FiberComplete 4100B series module (bidirectional IL/ORL and OTDR) to automate bulk certification of high fiber count cables. They run in the field on the T-BERD/MTS-4000 V2 and OneAdvisor 800 platforms, which also power them.

Embedded 12-port switch module

The E41MPO12SM is a compact MPO-based switch module that installs in the test platform. It runs an automated test sequence across up to 12 fibers and is suited to native MPO/MTP links, where it replaces multi-fiber fanout patchcords. Used with a fanout/breakout cable, it can also bulk certify simplex fibers in high fiber count cables. It is compatible with OTDR 4100 series modules A, B, C and QUAD, with bidirectional IL, ORL and OTDR FiberComplete modules, and with the TrueBIDIR software option.

High capacity external switches

The high capacity external switches come with a connecting kit in 48, 96, 144 and 192 port versions. They connect to the T-BERD/MTS-4000 V2 or OneAdvisor 800 over USB and are powered by the mainframe. They are designed for high fiber count cables and networks with many FTTP service points, such as FTTH and DAA/DWDM networks. Contractors can test many fibers remotely from a central point such as a local office, and the SmartAccess Anywhere software option allows tests to be launched and controlled remotely.

Cable-SLM workflow

The Cable-SLM application manages the automated switch sequence. It shows an overview of a high fiber count project with a pass/fail status for each fiber and connector tested. A "Test All Fibers" function runs a fully automated sequence and gives a visual verdict for each fiber of a 12-fiber MPO connector. Sequences can start at any fiber number, and single fibers can be troubleshot individually to get a precise diagnosis of the fault. Test result files and fiber and cable reports are generated and archived automatically.
