Overview

The VIAVI E41MPO12SM is a compact, on-board MPO switch module. It is installed in a test platform, which also powers it. The module has 12 ports and runs an automated test sequence over up to 12 fibers. It is designed for MPO-based networks and high fiber count cables.

The module works with OTDR 4100 series modules (A, B, C and QUAD) and with FiberComplete modules for bidirectional IL, ORL and OTDR testing. It also supports the TrueBIDIR software option. It fits the OneAdvisor 800 modular platform and the T-BERD/MTS-4000 V2 handheld platform.

On native MPO/MTP links, a 12-fiber MPO connection replaces multi-fiber fanout patch cords. For simplex fibers in high fiber count cables, a fanout/breakout cable is used instead. With this setup, groups of 12 fibers can be certified in bulk, and the switch sequence can start at any fiber number.

Cable-SLM software

The Cable-SLM application manages the automated switch sequence. It shows an overview of a high fiber count project with a pass/fail status for each fiber and connector tested. A "Test All Fibers" function runs a fully automated sequence and gives a visual verdict for each fiber of a 12-fiber MPO connector. A single fiber can also be tested on its own to diagnose a fault. While the automated OTDR sequence runs, the technician can inspect the next patch panel ports.
