Overview

The Anritsu MA2700A Handheld InterferenceHunter is a handheld direction finding system for use with Anritsu handheld spectrum analyzers. It has a GPS receiver and antenna, an electronic compass and a preamplifier that the user can switch on or off. Because the unit knows its position and which way it is pointing, the user can concentrate on finding the interfering signal.

The MA2700A works with Interference Analysis (Option 25) on supported Anritsu handheld instruments. When the user presses the trigger on the handle, the system records a direction and a signal level. The instrument then adds a vector line toward the interfering signal on its map. Field Master and Site Master instruments make maps with NetToolKit and OpenStreetMap. Other supported spectrum analyzers use maps made with easyMap Tools, and the user can pan and zoom these maps over a chosen coverage area.

The MA2700A is powered over USB and needs no batteries. It connects to the instrument with a USB cable and a coaxial cable to the RF input. To toggle the internal preamplifier, hold the trigger for 2 seconds or press a button on the attached instrument. A filter, usually a bandpass filter for the band of interest, can be fitted between the antenna and the MA2700A.

Antenna compatibility

The handle accepts any directional antenna that has a Type N female connector at the back of the antenna boom. One of these must also be true: the boom is at least 16 cm from the rearmost element to the connector, or, for vertical polarization, the rear element is no longer than 7.5 cm. There is no specific limit for horizontally polarized antennas beyond what the user can hold by hand. The antenna must be light enough to be held securely by its Type N connector alone. The grey plastic torque enhancer must be removed to use Anritsu's low-frequency directional antennas, such as the 2000-1777-R and 2000-1779-R.
