Overview
The VIAVI Xgig 4K16 Protocol Analyzer/Jammer Platform for PCI Express 4.0 is a single chassis that performs protocol analysis and error injection (jamming) at the same time on PCIe 4th generation traffic, at all layers of the stack. It supports lane widths of x1, x2, x4, x8 and x16 at link speeds of 2.5 GT/s, 5.0 GT/s, 8.0 GT/s and 16 GT/s.
Multicolored LEDs on the front panel indicate link speed, lane width and signal quality. For multiprotocol environments that also involve interfaces such as Ethernet, SAS and Fibre Channel, the Xgig 4K16 connects with other VIAVI protocol analyzers to provide time-correlated multi-protocol views.
The chassis has 128 GB of memory, split into 64 GB for upstream and 64 GB for downstream traffic capture, and provides PCIe and NVMe trigger and search capabilities. The hardware, firmware and Xgig software tools support current PCIe and NVMe specifications and report protocol errors at every layer of the PCIe stack, including state and sub-state level errors in the LTSSM viewer. Further functions include interposer auto-tuning, a configuration space viewer, PCIe link performance measurements, trace view packet compression and sideband signal triggers.
A range of interposers and probes connects the Xgig 4K16 to PCIe and NVMe connector interfaces, including CEM slot, U.2, M.2, OCulink, SFF-8674/8644 and x8 and x16 solder-down Flying Lead probes. A time-synchronized packet trace view shows SMBus captures alongside PCIe or NVMe packets. Analyzer and/or jammer licenses and suitable interposers are selected separately according to the application.
