Overview

The VIAVI Xgig 4-lane CEM-slot Interposer (Xgig4K-PCIe4-X4-AI) provides the connection between the VIAVI PCIe 4.0 Analyzer/Jammer chassis and a system under test. It is used for debug and verification of new ICs, system hardware designs and FPGA firmware, for validation of system BIOS and software, and in manufacturing test.

The interposer installs into a 4-, 8- or 16-lane PCIe CEM slot of the kind found in many servers, workstations and desktop PCs. An endpoint card is inserted into the top-edge 16-lane slot connector, creating the test data path, and two SFF-8674 equivalent cables connect the interposer to the Analyzer/Jammer platform. It operates up to and including the 16GTps PCIe 4.0 rate across 4 bi-directional lanes and is downward compatible with gen-1, gen-2 and gen-3 rates.

Signal path

High-speed linear redrivers buffer the system data signals between the PCIe slot and the PCB fingers, delivering a clean signal to the Analyzer and DUT for protocol capture. In Analyzer mode, DUT data is tapped from both the upstream and downstream paths. In Jammer or Analyzer/Jammer mode, the data path is switched to route data into and out of the Analyzer, allowing error injection.

Power and installation

The interposer is powered independently of the host system by an included external 12V/3A converter. Exchangeable brackets secure the chassis and endpoint card installations, and the board requires an open chassis while in use. It is supported by the Xgig tool suite, including Trace Control, Expert and Serialytics.
