VIAVI Xgig 5P Protocol Analyzers – Analyzer/Exerciser/Jammer Platforms for PCI Express 5.0

VIAVI protocol analyzers for PCI Express 5.0 are built on the Xgig 5P platform, available as the 16-lane Xgig 5P16 and the 8-lane Xgig 5P8. Both chassis analyze PCIe 5th-generation traffic at every layer of the stack at link speeds up to 32 GT/s, and also handle the earlier PCIe data rates. Each platform combines full Analyzer functionality with either Exerciser or Jammer operation.

The platforms decode PCIe and NVMe traffic, including TLP, DLLP and PHY layer packets. The Xgig 5P16 also decodes CXL traffic and captures SMBus traffic for NVMe Management Interface (NVMe-MI) observability. Trigger and search events cover training sequences, ordered sets, queue pairs, PRPs and Scatter/Gather Lists. Full LTSSM analysis reports state and sub-state level errors. Captures from up to four Xgig chassis can be cascaded into a single trace view.

Multi-link support lets several users work on one chassis at the same time. The Xgig 5P16 allows up to four users to access one of four links simultaneously through Analyzer bifurcation. The Xgig 5P8 supports simultaneous two-link, dual-port capture in Analyzer-only operation. The analyzers connect with other VIAVI protocol analyzers for Ethernet, SAS and FC to give time-correlated multi-protocol views.

Software and interposers

Both chassis work with the VIAVI Xgig software tool suite: Trace Control, Trace View, Expert and Serialytics. Additional functions include interposer auto-tuning, a configuration space viewer, PCIe link performance measurements, trace view packet compression and sideband signal triggers. Interposers and probes are available for CEM, U.2/U.3, M.2, EDSFF, OCulink and other connector interfaces. Analyzer, Exerciser and Jammer licenses and interposers are selected separately to suit the application.
