Overview

The Xgig 5P16 (part number Xgig5P-PCIe5-X16-PF) is a system platform for protocol analysis of PCI Express 5th generation traffic at all layers of the stack. It supports link and transaction testing, analysis and advanced debug at link speeds to 32 GTps and link widths up to 16 lanes, and it is compatible with the earlier PCIe data rates of 2.5, 5.0, 8.0 and 16 GTps.

The chassis carries 256GB of capture memory, split into 128GB for upstream and 128GB for downstream traffic. Multi-link support allows up to four users to access one of four links simultaneously, and full Analyzer functionality can run together with either Exerciser or Jammer operation. Captures from up to four Xgig chassis can be cascaded into a single trace view, and the platform connects with other VIAVI protocol analyzers for Ethernet, SAS and Fibre Channel to provide time-correlated multi-protocol views.

The platform decodes PCIe, NVMe and CXL traffic at the TLP, DLLP and PHY layers and provides PCIe, NVMe and CXL level trigger and search capabilities, including training sequences, ordered sets, queue pairs, PRPs, SGL and SMB events. Additional functions include interposer auto-tuning, a configuration space viewer, PCIe link performance measurements, trace view packet compression, sideband signal triggers, SMB capture and trigger for NVMe Management Interface (NVMe-MI) observability, and full LTSSM analysis with state and sub-state level error reporting.

Software and interposers

The 5P16 works with the VIAVI Xgig software tool suite (Trace Control, Trace View, Expert and Serialytics). A host-client connection supports remote debugging over Ethernet or local debugging over USB. Interposers and probes are available for PCIe and NVMe connector interfaces including CEM, U.2/U.3, M.2 and EDSFF. Analyzer, Exerciser and Jammer licenses and interposers are selected separately to suit the application.
