Overview

The VIAVI T-BERD/MTS-5800-100G is a handheld network tester for installing and maintaining networks. It supports both legacy and emerging technologies and addresses metro/core, data center interconnect and business services test applications.

The instrument is a dual-port 100G test unit intended for use across the life cycle of a network service, including fiber testing, service activation, troubleshooting and maintenance. Its interfaces include SFP/SFP+/SFP28 and QSFP+/QSFP28/CFP4.

Test functions include Optics Self-Test for QSFP+/QSFP28 and CFP4 modules, Ethernet line rate capture/decode, and the OTN Check automated workflow for OTN service activation. Ethernet service activation is covered by RFC 2544 and Y.1564 SAMComplete with nanosecond-accurate latency measurements, along with RFC 6349 TrueSpeed.

Fiber and timing modules

The platform supports the VIAVI 4100-Series OTDR and COSA modules with Smart Link Mapper, fiber microscopes and optical power meters. Synchronization and timing testing is performed with the Timing Expansion Module (TEM). The unit is operated through a multitouch screen with scripted workflows and pass/fail results.
