Overview

The TCU5612 is a configuration of the Luna T-Ray® 5600 Terahertz Control Unit, part of the T-Ray® 5000 platform. It has a 160 ps delay, which gives a 25 mm measurement range. The 5600 generation has redesigned optical subsystems and updated electronics for reliability, maintainability and performance.

The control unit sends precisely controlled optical signals to T-Gauge sensor heads, which generate and receive the terahertz signals. A single sensor head can take several measurements at once from the processed waveforms. The unit has two optical channels as standard and works in reflection or transmission.

Typical uses are precision thickness measurement of single-layer and multi-layer materials and coatings, multi-point measurement of extruded shapes, density and basis weight measurement, and high-speed measurement of moving samples for online process monitoring and control.

Software and integration

The TCU connects to a range of gauges and sensors through umbilical cabling and connection interfaces. T-Ray® Server Software turns terahertz signals into measurement data in engineering units. Several communication protocols and I/O options are available for integration with industrial automation and robotics.
