Overview
The Luna T-Ray® 5000 SPG single point thickness measurement gauge measures multilayer objects directly when the user presses a button. The tool is modular and takes either a straight-on or a right-angle measurement tip. The measurement itself does not touch the part. For hand-held use, a measurement tip helps the user hold the object at the focus of the THz beam. A touchscreen display is used to select the measurement configuration and the mode of operation.
Control unit
The SPG560n works with any of the intelligent T-Ray® 5000 Terahertz Control Units (TCU). The TCU has VGA and USB ports, so an external monitor and keyboard can be attached. The controller contains the short pulse laser, the time delay rail, the data collection electronics and the high speed processor that the terahertz system needs. Waveform acquisition takes 10 ms or 1 ms, which supports fast layer thickness measurement.
Measurement principle
The gauge measures by pulse time-of-flight (ToF). This makes it less sensitive to environmental and material variations that can cause calibration errors. It also reduces the effect of differences between operators.
