Overview

The ODiSI 6104 is the four-channel model of the ODiSI 610x line in Luna's ODiSI 6000 Series of high-definition fiber optic sensing (HD-FOS) interrogators. It works with sensors based on unaltered optical fiber and measures Rayleigh backscatter to acquire strain and temperature with a spatial resolution as fine as 0.65 mm, producing thousands of measurements per meter of sensing fiber.

As an ODiSI 610x model, the ODiSI 6104 can be configured to measure strain or temperature with a gage pitch of 0.65 mm, 1.3 mm, 2.6 mm or 5.2 mm, with a maximum aggregate measurement rate of 250 Hz. In standard mode each channel supports an HD-FOS sensor up to 20 m long or a CFG sensor up to 15 m long; with the optional Extended Range Remote Modules, each channel supports sensors up to 100 m long as well as HD-SC strain-compensated temperature sensors.

Sensors

The system supports high-definition Rayleigh strain and temperature sensors, HD-SC strain-compensated temperature sensors for embedded and surface-mount installations, and continuous fiber grating (CFG) sensors, which offer increased tolerance to vibration and improved dynamic performance. HD strain sensors are NIST-traceable calibrated and are supplied with calibrated scaling coefficients and a reference key for plug-and-play operation.

Software and integration

The ODiSI application software, running on a Linux controller, handles sensor identification and configuration, real-time plotting versus length or time, data logging, replay and export. Data can be streamed over Ethernet via TCP-IP in a JSON-based format, and ODiSI Remote software for Windows and Linux provides networked control and viewing. Integration features include IEEE 1588 PTP time synchronization, a TTL sync output and start/stop triggering. Optional 3DViz software maps data onto 3D CAD models or 2D images.

The ODiSI 6000 Series has been discontinued by the manufacturer; the replacement product is the ODiSI 7100 Series.
