Overview

The ODiSI 6000 Series from Luna is a family of multichannel high-definition fiber optic sensing (HD-FOS) interrogators. The system works with sensors made from unaltered optical fiber and measures Rayleigh backscatter to acquire distributed strain and temperature data, with a gage pitch as fine as 0.65 mm. This produces thousands of measurement points per meter of sensing fiber and allows strain contours or continuous temperature profiles to be mapped in detail.

The series is offered in two model lines. The ODiSI 610x models (6101/6102/6104/6108) support gage pitches of 0.65 mm, 1.3 mm, 2.6 mm and 5.2 mm, while the ODiSI 600x models (6001/6002/6004/6008) use a 5.2 mm gage pitch. Each is available with 1, 2, 4 or 8 channels. With Standard Remote Modules each channel supports an HD sensor up to 20 m or a continuous fiber grating (CFG) sensor up to 15 m; optional Extended Range Remote Modules extend this to 100 m and enable HD-SC strain-compensated temperature sensors.

Sensors

HD strain sensors use polyimide-coated fiber, are calibrated with NIST-traceable fixtures and are supplied with scaling coefficients and a reference key for plug-and-play identification. CFG sensors, with fiber Bragg gratings inscribed continuously along the fiber, provide increased tolerance to vibration and improved dynamic performance. The sensors are passive and dielectric and can be bonded to curved surfaces or embedded within materials.

Software and integration

The system is a complete data acquisition solution: the ODiSI application software configures sensors, measurements and triggering, and logs, replays and exports data. Data can be streamed in real time over Ethernet in a JSON-based format, and ODiSI Remote software for Windows and Linux provides remote control and viewing. Integration features include IEEE 1588 PTP time synchronization, a TTL sync output and start/stop triggering. Optional 3DViz software maps real-time or saved data onto 3D CAD models or 2D images.

The ODiSI 6000 Series has been discontinued by the manufacturer; the replacement product is the ODiSI 7100 Series.
