VIAVI SecureTime LEO Services: GNSS-Independent LEO Satellite Timing and Positioning Service

An alternate PNT service that uses Iridium LEO satellites to deliver encrypted, GNSS-independent positioning and timing.

Overview

SecureTime LEO Services use Iridium PNT STL services to provide encrypted, secure positioning and timing for resilient, alternate PNT. VIAVI has partnered with Iridium to offer PNT services carried over Iridium's low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation. The service can act as the primary PNT source or as a resilient backup for use cases that currently rely on GPS.

SecureTime altGNSS LEO-S is a global service. It uses the existing LEO satellite constellation, LEO ground reference stations and UTC(NIST)-traceable control infrastructure, and its signals are 1000 times stronger than GNSS signals.

The service suits sites that cannot get a GPS/GNSS signal, such as interior offices. It also suits sites where buildings, tunnels or dense tree canopy weaken the signal, and sites exposed to unexpected outages. VIAVI receivers and clocks such as the SecurePNT 6200 Series and the SecurePNT EdgeGM 7000 work with SecureTime services.

Key Features

  • Encrypted, secure positioning and timing based on Iridium PNT STL services
  • Global service using the Iridium LEO satellite constellation
  • LEO ground reference stations and UTC(NIST)-traceable control infrastructure
  • Signals 1000 times stronger than GNSS
  • Can serve as a primary PNT source or as a resilient backup to GPS

Applications

  • Indoor environments without GPS/GNSS reception
  • Sites with signal degradation from buildings, tunnels or dense tree canopy
  • Environments susceptible to unexpected GNSS outages
  • Resilient backup timing for GPS-dependent infrastructure
  • Critical infrastructure timing
