Overview

The VIAVI OneExpert CATV (ONX-620, ONX-630) is a handheld signal analysis meter platform for cable television and home network installation, maintenance and troubleshooting. A multi-touch interface and OneCheck automated tests present results on a dashboard with pass/fail indication, and AutoChannel identifies the channel lineup in real time so no channel plan has to be built or maintained.

OneCheck runs a downstream scan including MER and BER on all channels in about 60 seconds, and ingress and downstream testing are performed simultaneously through the DuoPort design with PosiScan connection verification. Session Expert performs background analysis across the TAP, ground block and CPE test points, lists detected problems and suggests corrective actions.

Platform and modularity

The meter supports DOCSIS 3.1 physical and service-layer testing as well as DOCSIS 3.0 32x8 bonding, WiFi in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, a wireless personal area network for the mobile application, and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with an optional TrueSpeed test. The DOCSIS/RF module is field exchangeable, and a dual-diplexer design supports 42/85, 42/204, 65/204 and 85/204 MHz split configurations for networks moving to an extended return band. Optional USB fiber scope and optical power meter support covers PON and RFoG installation.

Models and sweep

The ONX-620 is offered in Basic, IPX and TSX packages; the ONX-630 is offered in NTX and SWX packages and adds forward sweep to 1.2 GHz and reverse sweep to 204 MHz. ONX-630 sweep works with the SCU-1800 Sweep Control Unit and is backward compatible with SDA-5500/SDA-5510 headend sweep gear and DSAM-6300 meters.

Cloud management

Results, assets and configurations are managed through StrataSync, the VIAVI hosted cloud service, which keeps instruments on current software and options and stores session-based results gathered at the TAP, ground block and CPE.
