Overview

The VIAVI CellAdvisor JD720C Series comprises handheld cable and antenna analyzers for cell site installation and maintenance. They combine line sweep measurements, RF and optical power measurements and fiber inspection in one lightweight instrument.

Most problems in wireless networks occur in the base station infrastructure: the antenna system, cables and connectors, and in particular the coax or fiber feed-line. Contamination of fiber connectors is the most common fiber-related fault. Networks with fiber-based feed-lines require verification of both RF and fiber, which the JD720C Series covers with a single instrument instead of separate RF and fiber testers.

The analyzers provide reflection (VSWR or return loss), distance to fault (DTF), 1-port cable loss, 1-port phase and Smith chart measurements. The JD725C and JD726C add 2-port transmission and phase measurements for insertion gain/loss, antenna isolation, TMA performance and verification of devices such as duplexers and combiners. Fiber inspection uses the VIAVI P5000i fiber microscope, and optical power is measured with VIAVI MP-60/MP-80 USB power meters.

The four models differ in frequency range and 2-port capability: JD723C covers 100 MHz to 2.7 GHz, JD724C and JD725C cover 5 MHz to 4 GHz, and JD726C covers 5 MHz to 6 GHz. Options include a built-in bias tee, a high-power CW signal generator, Bluetooth, USB GPS and WiFi connectivity, and TestWizard self-guided test procedures.

Software

The JDViewer application software is used for post-analysis, report generation and editing of frequency bands and cable types, and JDRemote provides remote control. TestWizard files created in Test Wizard Creator on a PC guide technicians through predefined, repeatable test procedures.
