Overview
The VIAVI Trilithic 1G DSP Sweepless is the plant maintenance model of the DSP Series meters. It combines CATV signal measurements, a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem, gigabit Ethernet testing and optical test support in one instrument for systemwide maintenance work, and adds the sweepless sweep functions (ordering part number TRI-DSP-1G-D31-SWPLS).
Sweepless sweep
The Cable Modem Sweep function uses the cable modem built into the meter to perform in-band sweeps within the modem carriers. The meter injects up to eight upstream modem carriers that talk back to the CMTS and uses the pre-equalized data for each carrier to plot a frequency response of the upstream. It works with any DOCSIS 3.0 or DOCSIS 3.1 compatible CMTS with pre-EQ enabled and does not require headend sweep gear. On DOCSIS 3.1 equipped meters, Cable Modem Sweep with OFDMA performs a detailed return band sweep using only the internal cable modem, including close to the diplexer. The Forward Passive Sweep function uses the live carriers in the HFC distribution system to test and set the tilt and gain of distribution amplifiers without dedicated headend equipment.
Ethernet and cable modem testing
The 1G DSP achieves throughput testing speeds of up to a gigabit per second using a dedicated Ethernet test port or the internal cable modem. It performs roundtrip or one-way Key Parameter Index (KPI) measurements with constant payload testing for Layer 2 through Layer 4, for verification of Ethernet SLA and QoS metrics. Cable modem statistics, OFDM profile analysis, upstream linear distortion testing and ingress-under-carrier measurements are also supported.
Operation
The meter has a large, high-resolution color touchscreen, pass/fail indicators and autotest apps, remote control via a web browser, long battery life with a quick charge time and a glow-in-the-dark keypad. Up to five technicians can share one 1G DSP with individual profiles, and test results can be synchronized with StrataSync over Ethernet, DOCSIS or WiFi.
