Overview
The VIAVI Trilithic 1G DSP Sweep (part number TRI-DSP-1G-D31-SWEEP) is the active-sweep version of the 1G DSP plant maintenance meter in the DSP Series. It combines CATV measurements, a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem, Gigabit Ethernet and network testing, and sweep functions in one handheld instrument for system-wide maintenance.
Sweep functions
The Sweep model adds RSA high-resolution return sweep, in which the meter acts as an upstream sweep transmitter working with the 8310 RSA Return SpeedSweep Analyzer in the headend. This is used to troubleshoot micro-reflections and narrow suck-outs while stepping around active channels. The model also supports Forward Active Sweep with the 8300 FST Forward SpeedSweep Transmitter for setting amplifier tilt and gain, SSR high-speed return sweep and SST Compare with the 9581 SST, and cable modem sweep with OFDMA using the internal DOCSIS 3.1 modem.
Cable modem and Ethernet testing
The 1G DSP reaches throughput test speeds of up to a gigabit per second through a dedicated Ethernet test port or the internal cable modem. It runs roundtrip or one-way KPI measurements with constant payload testing for Layer 2 through Layer 4, which supports verification of Ethernet SLA and QoS metrics. The internal modem also provides upstream and downstream channel statistics, OFDM profile analysis, upstream linear distortion measurements and ingress-under-carrier views.
Operation
The meter has a large, high-resolution color touchscreen, pass/fail indicators, autotest apps, remote control through a web browser, and a glow-in-the-dark keypad. Results can be synchronized with StrataSync over Ethernet, DOCSIS or WiFi. An optical power meter with visual fault locator, a TDR and home leakage testing are offered as options or as separate ordering variants.
