Overview
The VIAVI Trilithic 1G DSP SWEEP with TDR (part number TRI-DSP-1G-D31-TDR-SWEEP) is the plant maintenance model of the DSP Series Meters. It is described by the manufacturer as a plant maintenance meter with TDR and FWD/REV sweepless-active sweep. It combines CATV signal measurements, a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem, Gigabit Ethernet testing and coaxial cable fault location in one handheld instrument.
Sweep
The meter supports both sweepless and active sweep methods. Cable modem sweep uses the internal modem to run in-band return sweeps within the modem carriers, and forward passive sweep uses the live carriers in the HFC distribution system to set amplifier tilt and gain without dedicated headend gear. With headend equipment, the meter can run RSA high-resolution return sweep with the 8310 RSA, forward active sweep with the 8300 FST, and SSR high-speed return sweep and SST Compare with the 9581 SST.
TDR
The built-in step-type TDR locates impairments in coaxial cable such as poor splices, water intrusion, pinched coax, impedance mismatches and bridged taps. It can also measure how much cable is left on a reel. Because it uses a step waveform, it has no dead zone, does not require a pulse width or gain setting, and matches cable impedance automatically.
Ethernet and Connectivity
The 1G DSP can run throughput tests at up to a gigabit per second through a dedicated Ethernet test port or the internal cable modem. It supports roundtrip or one-way Layer 2 through Layer 4 constant payload testing to verify Ethernet SLA and QoS metrics. It can connect over Ethernet, WiFi, GigE or cable modem, can be controlled remotely through a web browser, and syncs test results and configurations with StrataSync.
The instrument has an 800 x 480 color touchscreen, pass/fail indicators, autotest apps, a glow-in-the-dark keypad, and support for up to five user profiles.
