Overview

The VIAVI OneExpert DSP (ONX-220) is a handheld installation and service meter for cable technicians and contractors. It verifies DOCSIS service activation and performance and troubleshoots QAM, OFDM and analog carriers as well as the home network between the tap, ground block and customer premises equipment (CPE).

OneCheck automated tests cover ingress, downstream channels and DOCSIS carriers at the three demarcation points. AutoChannel detects the channel lineup automatically, so lineups do not need to be edited or deployed. ChannelCheck and DOCSISCheck provide real-time analysis of downstream carriers and of upstream and downstream DOCSIS service, and the Digital Quality Index (DQI) detects intermittent and sustained impairments on the physical path.

Connectivity and reporting

The meter connects over Bluetooth to the VIAVI Mobile Tech app on Android or iOS devices, using the mobile device's GPS and multimedia features and supporting geotagging of customer visits. Each unit is factory synced to the customer's StrataSync account so configurations and limits load on arrival. StrataSync Core is included for asset and data management, and a Workflow option links work orders to jobs.

Software packages and expansion

The ONX-220 comes with Base, Plus and Pro software packages, each available with a 42/85 MHz or 65/204 MHz dual diplexer. Plus and Pro add network service testing such as DOCSIS and Ethernet throughput, packet quality, ping/traceroute and WiFi network scanning. Software options add capabilities including home leakage, cable fault finding, advanced WiFi, Smart Access Anywhere, an upstream source transmitter and Ookla Speedtest. Optical power measurement and fiber end-face inspection are supported through the MP-60/MP-80 USB power meters and the P5000i fiber scope.
