Overview

The Luna os4210 is the sensor-probe version of the os4200 series of temperature probes. The series is built on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology. Each probe is a sealed stainless steel tube designed to make handling and installation easy, fast and repeatable. No epoxy holds the fiber to the tube, so long-term stability is built into the design.

In side-by-side comparisons with conventional thermocouples, the os4200 probes are equally sensitive and accurate. They also provide sub-second response time, a wider operating range and freedom from EMI noise. The os4210 is the smallest package in the series: a 1.07 x 27.1 mm probe with a 0.9 mm fiberglass braid cable. It suits installations that need flexibility and a fast response.

The sensor can be used alone or in series at the end of an FBG sensor array. Its double-ended design allows many sensors to be multiplexed on one fiber. Installation and cabling for such arrays are less expensive and less cumbersome than for comparable electronic gage networks.

Each sensor ships with a Sensor Information Sheet that lists the calibration coefficients needed to convert wavelength information into temperature. The ENLIGHT Sensing Software includes the os4200 in its sensor templates. It uses these coefficients to calculate temperature and to record, display and transmit data for large sensor networks. The probes are designed to work with HYPERION interrogators.
