Overview
The Luna os4100 Temperature Compensation Sensor is based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology. Its design and installation procedure are similar to those of the os3100 Optical Strain Gage. Mounted close to an os3100, it provides temperature compensation for that gage. The sensor is designed to make fiber handling and installation fast and repeatable.
A stainless steel carrier holds the FBG in tension and protects the fiber during installation. No epoxy holds the fiber to the carrier, which supports long-term stability. A universal attachment feature on the carrier lets it be fastened by weld, epoxy or screw.
The os4100 can be used on its own or in series as part of an FBG sensor array. Installing and cabling such arrays costs less and is simpler than for comparable electronic gage networks. The sensor is qualified for use in harsh environments.
Each sensor ships with a Sensor Information Sheet that lists the calibration coefficients needed to convert wavelength data into engineering units. The ENLIGHT Sensing Software includes a utility that performs this calculation and records, displays and transmits data for large sensor networks.
