Overview
The VIAVI Xgig 5P16 is a system platform for protocol analysis of PCI Express 5th generation traffic at all layers of the stack. It combines Analyzer, Exerciser and Jammer functionality on the same platform, so users can configure the equipment to match their specific test requirements. The platform supports link and transaction testing, analysis and advanced debug at link speeds to 32 GTps and widths up to 16 lanes.
The chassis has 256GB of memory, with 128GB for upstream and 128GB for downstream traffic capture. It provides PCIe, NVMe and CXL level trigger and search capabilities intended to reduce debug and problem resolution time. Additional functions include interposer auto-tuning, a configuration space viewer, PCIe link performance measurements, trace view packet compression and sideband signal triggers.
Multi-link and multi-protocol operation
The platform supports Analyzer bifurcation, enabling simultaneous capture of multiple links by up to four simultaneous users. Auxiliary ports allow multi-chassis operation, and captures from up to four Xgig chassis can be cascaded into a single trace view. The Xgig 5P16 also connects with other VIAVI protocol analyzers for Ethernet, SAS and FC to provide time-correlated multi-protocol views.
Software and interposers
Together with firmware and the Xgig software tools (Trace Control, Trace View, Expert, Serialytics), the 5P16 supports the latest PCIe, NVMe and CXL specifications. Analysis alerts the user to protocol errors at every layer of the PCIe stack, including state and sub-state level errors within the LTSSM viewer. A range of interposers and probes, including CEM, U.2/U.3, M.2 and EDSFF, attach the platform to common PCIe and NVMe connector interfaces, and SMBus status can be shown alongside PCIe, NVMe or CXL packets in a time-synchronized trace view. When purchasing the platform, appropriate Analyzer, Exerciser and/or Jammer licenses and interposers must be selected for the application.
