Overview
The VIAVI Xgig Slimline 8-lane Interposer for PCI Express 5.0 (Xgig5P-PCIe5-X8-SL) connects the VIAVI PCIe 5.0 Analyzer/Exerciser/Jammer platform to a system under test. It is used for debug and verification of new ICs, system hardware designs and FPGA firmware, for validation of system BIOS and software, and for manufacturing test.
The interposer installs between an 8-lane Slimline host port and a Slimline-attached endpoint device. This arrangement is common in storage equipment, where low-profile Slimline cables are routed internally between server components. Bidirectional PCIe 5.0 protocol data on each of the 8 lanes is captured at up to 32GT/s and delivered to the analyzer through supplied low-loss custom cables.
Signal path
High-speed linear redrivers buffer the system data signals so that a clean signal reaches both the analyzer and the devices under test. In Analyzer mode, data is tapped from both the upstream and downstream paths. In Jammer mode or Analyzer/Jammer mode, data flows through the analyzer chassis, allowing error injection.
Installation and software
With system power off, the interposer is connected into the Slimline cable path and to the analyzer chassis. The interposer and analyzer are then powered on, trace capture conditions are set in the Xgig tools, and the system under test is powered up. The interposer is powered independently of the host system and is supported by the Xgig tool suite, including Trace Control, Expert and Serialytics.
