Overview

The VIAVI Xgig 16-lane MCIO/CopprLink Interposer for PCI Express 5.0 (part number Xgig5P-PCIe5-X16-MCIO) supports protocol analysis of PCIe 5.0 communication across an MCIO/CopprLink internal connection. It sits between a 16-lane MCIO host port and an MCIO-attached endpoint device, and is intended for development, debugging and performance tuning of MCIO/CopprLink devices used in server and storage equipment, data center switches and routers, and high performance computing systems.

Bidirectional PCIe 5.0 protocol data on each of the 16 lanes is captured at up to 32 GT/s and delivered to the VIAVI Analyzer through supplied high-performance, low-loss custom cables. High-speed linear signal redrivers buffer the system data signals so that a clean signal reaches both the Analyzer and the devices under test.

Operating modes

In Analyzer mode, data flows between the host system's MCIO interface and the MCIO target DUT as normal, and the signal is tapped inside the interposer from both the upstream and downstream paths. In Jammer mode, or Analyzer/Jammer mode, data flows through the Analyzer chassis, enabling error injection for deeper system analysis.

Installation and software

With system power off, the interposer is connected into the MCIO cable path and to the Analyzer chassis using the supplied MCIO/CopprLink internal cables. The interposer is powered independently of the host system by an included AC adapter. Trace capture conditions are set in the VIAVI Xgig tool suite, which includes Trace Control, Expert and Serialytics, and the interface supports full decode and analysis of PCIe data traffic and link states.
