Overview
The VIAVI Nano and Micro iOTDR cards are integrated OTDR modules with accompanying software, designed for network element manufacturers (NEMs) to build into equipment such as amplifiers and switches. They let operators locate fiber faults that degrade network traffic, including physical faults that cause latency, jitter, service quality issues and outages, and they can detect fiber security intrusion attempts.
The cards are aimed at in-service test and monitoring routines: fiber characterization, fault identification, intrusion detection and tracking fiber degradation for preventative maintenance. They are intended for xWDM, FTTx, PON and 4G/5G fiber networks, as well as dark fiber testing.
The Nano iOTDR card is the smaller short-range version with a 10/100 Ethernet interface. The Micro iOTDR card comes in medium and long range variants, reaches up to 260 km and has a 10/100/1000 Ethernet interface. Both cards are controlled over Ethernet and come with a large software library for remote fiber test use cases.
VIAVI professional services can help with integrating and testing the Nano or Micro iOTDR cards inside a larger system. The cards received a 2021 Lightwave Innovation Award.
