Overview

The VIAVI MAP-330 is the three-slot mainframe of the third-generation Multiple Application Platform (MAP-300) Series. This optical test and measurement platform is designed for compact, cost-effective development and manufacturing of optical communications technology. The MAP system dates back to the original MAP released in 2001. It forms the basis of the VIAVI optical test portfolio for labs and manufacturing.

Each MAP-330 mainframe is a 3U chassis that holds up to three cassettes and a field-replaceable controller. It comes in benchtop and rackmount versions. The rackmount versions are half 19-inch rack wide, so two units can be mounted side by side. An optional 15.6-inch touchscreen can be docked on the benchtop three-slot chassis, making it a portable, self-contained system.

User interface

The controller has a 3.5-inch local touchscreen that gives access to connection and configuration settings. The HTML-based MAP-300 GUI can be used locally or remotely over Ethernet from a supported web browser, and several users can access it at once. On the dashboard, each slot appears as a widget that identifies the installed cassette and gives quick access to its main settings.

Automation and compatibility

All module and platform commands follow the SCPI command language. Remote programming works over TCP/IP (LXI) via Ethernet, GPIB and direct socket. IVI drivers support LabVIEW, LabWindows, Visual C++ and Visual Basic, and include a simulation mode for offline development. The mainframe works with MAP2xx series cassettes and existing remote-control setups, and it supports the MAP Control Center (MAPcc) asset management tool.
