Overview

LAW-X (Leakage Analysis Workshop) is the server application of the VIAVI Seeker GPS leakage management system. It automatically collects and analyzes leakage data from across a cable network. Operators use it to find and fix leaks, reduce technician time, assess network leakage integrity and measure how well leakage maintenance is working.

Automated leakage management

The system consists of the LAW-X server, vehicle-mounted Seeker family leakage meters, GPS receivers and mobile communications adapters (MCAs). These collect leak location and level data while the driver follows their normal route. Data is uploaded manually over USB, or automatically when the vehicle connects to a designated WiFi hotspot. LAW-X plots the data and marks leak source locations as push pins on a map. A patented quadrangulation algorithm places a single leak at its actual location, and logged leaks are corrected to the FCC-prescribed equivalent 10-foot measurement.

LAW-X then assigns repair work orders and emails them to the responsible technicians. Technicians upload pre- and post-repair snapshots, and the server closes the work orders and removes the push pins from the map. The system scales, so operators can add more automation as field equipment coverage grows.

Web-based interface

In the web interface, users can hover over a push pin to see more data, or click it for full leak details. A sortable leak list lets supervisors pick leaks and create work orders, and lets plant managers sort leaks by field strength and assign repairs. A hybrid aerial/map view links leaks to physical addresses and GPS coordinates. Strand maps, aerial and underground plant, amplifiers and pedestals can be imported as custom map overlays.

Integration and deployment

Through integration with VIAVI XPERTrak, leak data can be overlaid with PNM and QoE data to help localize issues remotely and fix the leaks affecting subscribers first. Off-air signals such as LTE can be monitored during drive-out testing and shown as a heatmap layer on the leakage map. LAW-X is mainly offered as a hosted service, which keeps the server on the latest version. It can also be licensed to run on customer-provided physical or virtual servers, with annual maintenance and support contracts available.
