Overview

The NPMC is the NoTail version of the Polarization Maintaining Coupler (PMC) from the Luna passive components line, formerly offered by General Photonics. It can split light from an input PM fiber into output PM fibers, or combine light from PM input fibers into a single PM output fiber, without disturbing the linear state of polarization (SOP) of the light.

The coupler can be used to split high power linearly polarized light into multiple paths, or as a power tap to monitor signal power in a PM fiber system. Applications include PM fiber interferometers, power sharing in polarization sensitive systems and signal monitoring in PM fiber systems.

The NoTail package has no external fiber pigtails, which makes it convenient for laboratory use and storage. NoTail 3- and 4-port components carry mounting magnets for placement on an optical table. The device is offered at 1064 nm, 1310 nm and 1550 nm in 1 x 2 and 2 x 2 configurations, with filter, crystal or fused fiber construction.

The manufacturer lists the passive components product group as discontinued.
