Overview
The PMC is a polarization maintaining (PM) fiber coupler from the General Photonics passive component line, now part of Luna. It can split light from one input PM fiber between two output PM fibers. It can also combine light from two PM input fibers into a single PM output fiber. The coupler is offered in 1 x 2 and 2 x 2 configurations, with split ratios from 1 to 50%.
The device can split high-power, linearly polarized light into several paths without disturbing the linear state of polarization (SOP). It can also act as a power tap that monitors signal power in a PM fiber system without affecting the SOP of the light in the fiber. Typical uses are PM fiber interferometers, power sharing in polarization-sensitive systems and signal monitoring in PM fiber systems.
The coupler is housed in a stainless steel package and has low excess insertion loss, low back reflection and a high extinction ratio. Versions are available for 1550 nm, 1310 nm and 1064 nm operation, with filter, crystal or fused-fiber construction. The NoTail version, without external pigtails, is sold as the NPMC.
Luna lists the passive component product group as discontinued.
