Overview
The Anritsu MX109030PC Virtual Network Master for AWS is measurement application software that runs in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud on Amazon EC2 instances. Physical test equipment cannot be installed in cloud and virtual environments, so the software takes over the functions of a hardware tester. This lets users place measurement points on communication paths inside the cloud.
When it is connected to a Network Master Pro MT1000A/MT1040A or to another Virtual Network Master, the MX109030PC measures the throughput, frame loss, latency and packet jitter of a communication line every second. It supports up to four measurement streams. Measurements are controlled and results are displayed through a web application in a web browser, and a Web API is also provided.
Measurement method
The software runs active tests with UDP traffic. Line load and frame size can be set separately for uplink and downlink, so asymmetric application traffic can be reproduced and each direction can be measured on its own. One-way latency is measured by synchronizing time with an NTP server and adding time information to every measurement frame. The latency of each frame is recorded, and the maximum, minimum and average values are calculated at one-second intervals, which shows short latency peaks. Transmission and reception run on dedicated CPU cores, so traffic generation is not affected by other applications.
Licensing
The Virtual Network Master is licensed software with a basic license and a time-limited license. The time-limited license is available for three months or for one year. Additional-unit licenses are offered for deploying multiple instances.
