Overview
The Anritsu Virtual Network Master is measurement application software that runs in a cloud or virtual environment. It converts the functions of physical test devices into software, so measurement points can be placed on communication paths inside virtual environments where hardware testers cannot be installed.
When connected to a Network Master Pro MT1000A/MT1040A or to another Virtual Network Master, the application measures throughput, frame loss, latency and packet jitter of a communication line on a per-second basis. Up to four streams are supported for measurement.
Measurement method
Testing is active, using traffic similar to that of the applications under evaluation. UDP packets are generated with line load and frame size specified individually for uplink and downlink, so asymmetric traffic such as video transmission can be evaluated in each direction. One-way latency is measured by synchronising time with an NTP server and adding time information to every measurement frame; per-frame latency is aggregated into maximum, minimum and average values at one-second intervals. Dedicated cores are allocated for transmission and reception to keep traffic generation and measurement stable.
Lineup and licensing
The lineup consists of the MX109030PC for AWS public cloud environments and the MX109031PC for KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) private cloud environments. Measurements are controlled and results visualised through a web application in a browser, or through a Web API. The software is licensed with a basic license plus a time-limited license of three months or one year.
