Overview

The Anritsu MU909060A3 is a Gigabit Ethernet module for the MT9090A Network Master mainframe. It has two SFP slots, so two electrical or optical SFP modules can be installed. With the module fitted, the compact, battery-powered Network Master tests Gigabit Ethernet links during installation, maintenance and troubleshooting. It covers bandwidth verification, connectivity testing and service availability verification.

The instrument is built for field use. It is ready to measure in about 15 seconds and runs up to 3 hours on a single charge, depending on configuration and setup. It has no fans or vents, and a 4.3-inch wide screen colour display that can be read indoors and outdoors. A Test Automator sets up sequences of tests, and PASS/FAIL indicators and graphical result displays make the results easier to read.

Network activation

For installation, commissioning and QoS verification, the module generates traffic, including VLAN-tagged traffic, and provides BER testing, performance statistics and QoS statistics. Optional RFC 2544 and ITU-T Y.1564 test suites automate throughput, frame loss, latency and jitter testing. Y.1564 runs in two phases: a Service Configuration Test and a Service Performance Test, in which all configured traffic streams run at the same time. In end-to-end mode, two units work together in an in-band control setup, and both sets of results are shown on the master instrument.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

Both ports can be used at the same time. This cuts test time when deploying multiple ports and allows pass-through and bidirectional monitoring. The Channel Stats option monitors up to 63 filtered streams to identify error streams, top talkers and network attacks. The Remote GUI option lets an operator control the instrument from a Web browser through a USB-Ethernet converter. Test results can be exported as PDF or CSV reports.
