Overview

The MSRC-C21308LPX-M101-MFP is a member of the VIAVI Multiple Application Platform (MAP) General Purpose Light Source (mSRC-C2) family. It is a stabilized, low power, fixed wavelength broadband module that combines Light Emitting Diode (LED) emitters at the two most commonly used multimode wavelengths, 850 nm and 1300 nm, into a single multiplexed output on 50 µm multimode fiber with an FC/PC connector.

LED sources emit incoherent broadband light and are used for testing broadband multimode components. Compared with SLEDs and Fabry-Perot lasers they have a slightly broader spectral width and lower output power. The incoherent nature of the light avoids interference in short fibers where reflections are present.

Mode fill is key for accurate measurement of multimode components and systems, since an under- or over-filled launch can give optimistic or pessimistic loss results. The module provides encircled-flux compliant launch conditions per IEC 62614, a fixed output power level and ±0.05 dB optical power stability.

Platform

The mSRC is part of the MAP LightDirect module family and is compatible with all current MAP-300 and MAP-200 chassis, which host 2, 3 or 8 application modules. The platform offers a web-enabled multiuser graphical interface with summary and detailed views, LXI compliance and SCPI-based automation drivers for laboratory and manufacturing use.
