Overview

The VIAVI MOSX-C1148XCCB0-M100-MLC is the 48-port, LC/PC bulkhead version of the mOSX-C1 cross connect optical switch, a dual-width module for the MAP Series Multiple Application Platform. It is a non-blocking, bidirectional single-mode matrix switch that works as a test path manager, connecting multiple test paths across the switch fabric to support parallel test processes.

The switch fabric uses an any-port to any-port (common connection) architecture. It supports both symmetric MxM topologies (for example 8x8) and asymmetric ones (for example 4x12), so the same hardware can be reconfigured in software. Ports can be assigned as inputs or outputs as needed. Connections can be pre-configured without light present, stay in a blocking state until activated, and can be made or broken without affecting any other connection.

Switching principle

The switching engine uses compact piezoelectric actuators to align the signal path through expanded beam optics. A capacitive sensor matrix measures the position of the collimating lens for long-term stability and repeatability, and connections are held even when no light is present. Reflective optics fold the switch engine so that each fiber can connect to every other fiber.

Control and integration

The module is controlled through SCPI remote commands or the MAP Series graphical user interface, where ports can be given logical names. As a software option, the switch can be locked to a specific MxN topology so that only connections matching that structure are allowed. Connections between ports can be disabled or re-enabled. The mOSX belongs to the LightDirect switching module family, works with all current MAP-300 and MAP-200 chassis, and can be combined with MAP-Series mOSW modules to build larger switching systems.
