Overview
The Polatis® range of optical matrix switches are fully non-blocking all-optical matrix switches. Port counts range from 4x4 up to 192x192. The switches are based on Polatis' patented DirectLight® optical switching technology, which is used in defense applications and in commercial applications by network equipment manufacturers. They are designed for mission-critical applications that need low optical loss, a compact size, low power consumption and fast switching.
The range includes the Optical Switch Tray (OST) in single-mode versions from 8x8 up to 48x48, with internal optical power monitors and variable optical attenuation available as options. The OST also comes in multimode versions at 8x8 and 16x16.
DirectLight technology
DirectLight uses piezoelectric beam-steering. Connections can be made and held with no light on the fiber, which allows true dark fiber switching. Operators can pre-provision paths and switch intermittent or variable-power test signals over lit or dark fiber.
Series 6000i instrument switch
The POLATIS Series 6000i Instrument optical switch comes in sizes from 8×8 to 192×192. It is available in symmetric (N×N) configurations and in single-sided, customer-configurable (N×CC) configurations. Asymmetric (M×N) configurations are available on request. Switches up to 32×32 fit in a 1 RU chassis. Models up to 96×96 are designated "Ultra".
The switch supports NETCONF and RESTCONF SDN interfaces, as well as SNMP, TL1 and SCPI. It also has a secure web GUI. Options include optical power monitors and variable optical attenuation on every connection. A programmable port shutter can simulate fiber breaks, and the switch can be partitioned in software so that several test teams can share it.
