Overview
The VIAVI mOPM-C2B is a modular optical power meter for the VIAVI Multiple Application Platform (MAP-300). It brings high-density InGaAs optical detectors to the MAP mainframe for high channel count testing of optical components, modules and systems, including co-packaged optics, M x N optical circuit switches and high-density optical cables.
The module is available in 8, 16 or 24 port configurations in a single slot, so an 8-slot 3U MAP mainframe can support up to 192 channels at the same time. It operates from 1260 to 1640 nm, measures optical power from +10 to -70 dBm, and provides a 250k point buffer memory per channel with 1 µs sampling and triggered operation for synchronized measurements. The fiber-coupled design uses fixed LC/PC or LC/APC connectors.
User Interface and Automation
The web-based user interface offers tabular and visual views, and settings such as wavelength and averaging time can be changed per channel or in bulk. Block data structures allow fast download of buffer-captured data. SCPI automation uses a command structure common to existing MAP optical power meters, and each channel can serve a separate independent thread or user, allowing multiple users per module.
OPMscope Application
OPMscope is a MAP-300 application that displays optical signals graphically, similar to a digital sampling scope in the optical domain. It supports triggering on rising or falling edges, pre-trigger data points, pan and zoom for transient monitoring, and export of up to 100,000 captured data points per power meter head. On the MAP-300 platform it supports traces on up to 8 mainframes with up to 256 devices.
MAP Platform
The mOPM-C2B is part of the MAP-300 LightDirect module family. The MAP is a modular, rack-mountable or benchtop platform with chassis hosting 3 or 8 application modules, LXI compliant, with SCPI-based automation drivers and PC-based management tools. Compared with the mOPM-C1, which uses free-air launch with removable adapters, the mOPM-C2B uses a large-core fiber-coupled design with fixed connectors, trading connector flexibility for higher port density.
