Overview
Raptor is an integrated test and development solution based on the Software Communications Architecture (SCA). It combines three VIAVI products: eCo Suite, Signal WorkShop and the Configurable Modular Platform (CMP). It is intended for the design, development, emulation and test of SCA software defined systems (SDS), from concept through to a market-ready product.
The platform is modular, configurable and based on open standards. It targets complex embedded software defined systems in tactical communications, electronic warfare, signal intelligence, radar and robotics.
Design and development
Applications are designed by graphically assembling signal processing blocks. Standards-based peripheral APIs isolate applications from the underlying hardware, which helps when porting software to a target platform. The model-based design tools apply hundreds of validation rules to check compliance with the SCA standard. eCo Suite provides an SCA v4.1 core framework, the eCo Architect design and modeling tool, which generates the SCA code automatically, the eCo Inspector runtime introspection tool and the eCo DSP Toolbox library of signal processing components.
Emulation
Raptor can act as a surrogate platform, running applications in real time before they are ported to the user's own target hardware. From the user interface, applications can be installed, configured, started and stopped, and the software deployment strategy can be changed at run time. Channel characteristics can be emulated with blocks from the DSP Toolbox.
Test and analysis
Signal Workshop, the integrated signal analysis tool, connects at the antenna port or through software probes inserted in the signal processing chain. Signals can be viewed in the time, frequency and modulation domains, including constellation plots. Both synthetic and recorded real-world signals can be used.
Hardware
The Configurable Modular Platform is built from AXIe modules: the mA-1302/1305 chassis, the mA-3011 embedded host, the mA-3310/3320 FPGA modules, the mA-3A01 mass data storage module, and the mA-6806 and mA-6A30 vector signal transceivers.
