Overview

The VIAVI C200 is a Layer 4-7 stateful traffic performance test appliance in a 1U form factor. It generates high-throughput application traffic, including traffic encrypted with high-strength ciphers, to assess the performance of content-aware networks, network devices, web applications and media services. Because it takes up little rack space, several units can be combined into test beds that generate multiple terabits of application-layer traffic.

The appliance has four QSFP28 interfaces that carry 10G, 25G, 40G, 50G and 100G Layer 4-7 application traffic. Users can set load variables and build tests with mixed traffic profiles that emulate real-world network scenarios. Cryptographic acceleration on the appliance supports large-scale encrypted traffic testing, including HTTPS/TLS with Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).

Software

The C200 has a built-in CyberFlood controller, so tests can be run from the web-based CyberFlood interface without a separate hosting platform. CyberFlood generates realistic traffic from hundreds of thousands of application scenarios and includes the NetSecOPEN standard test methodologies, among them goal-seeking tests that find the maximum performance of a device under test.

The appliance also runs Avalanche software for directed one-ended and two-ended testing. Avalanche emulates detailed user behaviour, including several browser types, SSL versions, authentication, think times and HTTP aborts, and supports video testing over HTTP Adaptive Bitrate streaming. Tests can be automated through the CyberFlood RESTful API and the Avalanche Tcl API.

Key Features

  • >100 Gbps line-rate stateful Layer 4-7 traffic generation
  • High-density 16 x 10G interfaces, or up to 4 x 40G or 4 x 100G interfaces per C200
  • Built-in CyberFlood controller with web-based interface
  • Compatible with both CyberFlood and Avalanche testing solutions
  • Preconfigured traffic mixes for high-throughput HTTPS/TLS encryption testing
  • Custom traffic mixes from a database of hundreds of thousands of application scenarios
  • Full support for HTTP/3
  • Performance and capacity testing of firewalls, load balancers, SD-WAN, SASE, proxies, IDS/IPS and IPsec VPN gateways
  • Application server performance testing for Web, CIFS, eMail, DHCP, FTP, DNS, RTSP/RTP, Multicast, RTMP and HTTP ABR
  • Selectable performance operation modes to adjust CPU and memory allocation behind test interfaces
  • Long-duration soak testing with the TestCloud application load
  • IPSec and SSL VPN capacity testing, including tunnel setup, maximum tunnels and data rates over encrypted tunnels
  • ZTNA testing of the Zero Trust Policy Enforcement Point (PEP) and per-user access policies
  • Automatic goal seeking to find the maximum capabilities of a device
  • Web-capture import and replay of recorded website sessions
  • NetSecOPEN standard test methodologies built into CyberFlood
