Overview

VIAVI Automotive Ethernet Device and Network Testing combines test hardware and software for validating in-car and Car2X TSN/AVB-enabled networks, cabling, devices and systems. The solution emulates TSN/AVB and non-TSN/AVB capable end-points, allowing a realistic vehicle Ethernet environment with multiple connections, domains and traffic profiles to be created.

Performance and functional testing

Performance and functional testing runs on the VIAVI TestCenter application, which provides stateful protocol emulation, mixed TSN and non-TSN traffic generation on each port, TSN-specific metrics and timing measurements, real-time capture and full protocol decode in Wireshark. Test packages cover IEEE 802.1AS, 802.1Qat, 802.1Qav, 802.1Qbv, 802.1Qci, 802.1Qbu, 802.1CB, IEEE 1722/1733 and 802.3br.

Conformance testing

Conformance testing is based on TTworkbench and ready-to-use test suite packs: the Avnu-accredited Automotive AVB Conformance pack, TSN conformance suites (pre-emption, time aware shaper, filtering and policing, redundancy), the AUTOSAR Conformance pack for IPv4, UDP and TCP, and the HMC AVB Middleware Compliance pack for the Hyundai Motor Company supplier ecosystem. Test suites are prepared for full automation and can be customised, for example to exclude test stub activities or add negative testing.

Hardware platforms

The software runs on the compact 2U VIAVI TSN & Automotive C2 Appliance (up to two NICs and 8 Ethernet ports, including 10BASE-T1S and 100/1000BASE-T1) and the TSN and Automotive M1 Appliance (4 to 20 ports, 10M to 10G, including BASE-T1, BASE-T and optical SFP/SFP+ interfaces).
