Overview
The VIAVI SmartClass OLA-55 is a handheld optical level attenuator for single-mode fiber (9/125 µm). It is intended for system testing, installation, maintenance and production work on single-mode fiber links and is available in PC (BN 2280/01) and APC (BN 2280/21) versions.
The attenuator uses an optical design that allows a low minimum insertion loss. Attenuation is set continuously over the entire range with a wheel for precise and fast manual adjustment, and the displayed value can be shown as absolute or relative attenuation. The device operates bi-directionally and is calibrated at 1310 nm, 1550 nm and 1625 nm.
As part of the SmartClass optical handheld line, the OLA-55 has a graphical user interface, an intelligent power supply management system, a belt bag for hands-free operation, measurements traceable to international standards, and a shock-proof and splash-proof housing for field use. It requires no warm-up time.
The optical interface accepts interchangeable adapters from the BN 2155/00.xx range, suitable for flat or angled physical contact connectors. The unit runs on four AA dry batteries or NiMH rechargeable cells, with an integrated fast charging function and external 12 V DC operation.
