Overview

Sercalo's fast optical MEMS switches (SW/SL family) are opto-mechanical switches for fiber optic communication systems and submodules. They switch light with a silicon micro-mechanical mirror, are designed for repeatable switching, and are qualified to Telcordia GR-1221.

The family includes latching and momentary (non-latching) types. In the latching SL type, a bistable suspension mechanism holds the last selected state when power is removed. The momentary SW type returns to its bar state at power off and is not recommended for new designs. The SLTS latching type adds an integrated capacitive sensor that reports the switch position.

The switches come in a miniature package built for rugged environments and are suited to direct mounting on printed circuit boards. They are controlled by TTL or CMOS logic signals. The product line can be configured with single-mode, multimode or bend-insensitive fiber, loose-tube or bare-fiber sleeving, different pigtail lengths and FC or LC connectors.

Key Features

  • Fast latching or momentary switching
  • 2x2 or 1xN port configurations up to 1x32
  • Single-mode, multimode and specialty fiber options

  • Insertion loss below 1 dB
  • Meets Telcordia GR-1221 reliability requirements
  • Meets RoHS requirements 2015/863/EU
  • Suitable for direct mounting on printed circuit boards
  • Switching mechanism does not wear out
  • Latching: the switch remains in the last selected state at 0 V on the selector pins or at power off
  • 0.5 ms typical switching time
  • 0.5 dB typical insertion loss
  • Low power consumption, typically 5 mW (max 25 mW)
  • Switch state selected by a CMOS or TTL pulse of at least 2 ms
