Overview
The POS-202 Polarization Stabilizer, part of the PolaStay reset-free stabilizer line originally from General Photonics, keeps the output state of polarization (SOP) stable when the input SOP changes. Its output is a linear polarization aligned to the slow axis of the instrument's polarization-maintaining (PM) output fiber.
Architecture
The instrument combines a fiber squeezer polarization controller, an in-line polarization monitor and proprietary control algorithms. It can compensate for an input polarization discontinuity in as little as 5 ms. It can also track a continuous input SOP rotation of up to 32π/s without resets.
Configuration
The POS-202 has two optical ports on the front panel, one for input and one for output. Because the polarization monitor is internal, no external feedback signal is needed: the instrument stabilizes the output polarization to its internal reference state. A front-panel OLED display is used to set up and tune operating parameters such as control step size, feedback delay and activation threshold.
