Overview
The POL is a fiber-coupled in-line polarizer from the Luna (formerly General Photonics) passive component group. It transmits only one linear polarization and is designed for fiber optic networks and measurement applications. The product group has been discontinued.
The device integrates a high-extinction-ratio micro-polarizer in a rugged stainless steel package for optical performance and stability. Applications include polarization analysis, polarization monitoring and control, SNR monitoring, PMD monitoring and polarization interferometry. When combined with a polarization controller, the polarizer can function as a variable optical attenuator to adjust the optical power in the fiber.
The polarizer is offered in a pigtailed version (POL) and a NoTail version (NPOL). The NoTail package has no external pigtails, which makes it convenient for laboratory use and storage. Versions are available for 1550, 1310 and 1064 nm, with SM-to-SM, SM-to-PM or PM-to-PM fiber configurations.
